The Rice Purity Test asks about some of the most personal parts of life: relationships, intimacy, alcohol, drugs and run-ins with the law. That makes it fun to talk about, but it also raises fair questions. Who sees your answers? Can a score affect how you feel about yourself? This guide covers both privacy and wellbeing.

Part 1: Protecting your privacy

Know where your answers go

Different websites handle your answers in very different ways. Some calculate everything in your browser. Others send every answer to a server. A few might store more than you'd expect. Before taking any online quiz with sensitive questions, look for a clear privacy policy.

On this site:

  • Your individual answers never leave your device. The checking and calculating happens entirely in your browser.
  • Only your final score is sent, so we can show you how you compare with others.
  • Scores aren't linked to you. No name, no email, no account and no raw IP address.

You can read the details in our privacy policy.

Be careful on shared devices

If you take the test on a shared computer or someone else's phone:

  • Press Clear when you're done, or close the tab.
  • Use a private or incognito window if you're worried.

Think before you share

Sharing your score is usually low-risk, since it's just a number. Sharing specific answers, like screenshots of checked boxes, is different. Things posted online can be saved, screenshotted and resurfaced years later by schools, employers or partners.

Rule of thumb: share the number if you like, keep the details to yourself.

Watch out for copycat quizzes

Some quiz sites ask you to sign in with a social account or enter an email address to "see your results". A purity test never needs that. If a site asks for personal details, close the tab.

Part 2: Keeping a healthy mindset

Your score isn't a judgment

The single most important thing to remember: the test measures experiences, not worth. It doesn't know whether you're kind, funny, loyal or smart. A high score doesn't make someone better, and a low score doesn't make someone worse.

Don't chase a number

Some people feel pressure to "lower" their score to seem more experienced, or feel ashamed of a low score. Both reactions miss the point. Do things because you want to, when you're ready, not to move a number on a quiz.

Handling peer pressure

The test is often taken in groups, which can create pressure to:

  • Reveal your score when you don't want to.
  • Explain specific answers.
  • Do things to "catch up" with friends.

You never owe anyone your score or your story. Simple, friendly responses work well:

  • "I'm keeping mine a mystery!"
  • "Ha, I'll pass on this round."
  • "Let's do the Clean version instead."

Notice how you feel afterwards

It's normal to feel a flicker of something after seeing your score, whether amusement, surprise or embarrassment. But if the test brings up painful memories, regret or anxiety that sticks around, take that seriously. Talking to a trusted friend, family member or counselor can help.

If any of the experiences on the list involved something that was not your choice, please know that it is not your fault, and support is available. In the US, RAINN's National Sexual Assault Hotline is available at 1-800-656-4673. If substance use is a concern, SAMHSA's free, confidential helpline is at 1-800-662-4357. Most countries have similar services.

Part 3: Age-appropriate choices

The classic Rice Purity Test includes mature themes and is designed for 17+. For younger people:

Parents and teachers: if young people are going to take a purity test anyway, steering them toward these versions is a simple, positive step.
