What a score of 65–76 means
A score from 65 to 76 means you checked between 24 and 35 items. You have likely experienced most of the romance section, attended plenty of parties, and tried alcohol and possibly other substances. You may also have a story or two involving rule-breaking.
This range is solidly in the middle. It is a very typical result for upperclassmen in college and for people in their twenties.
Typical experiences in this range
- Several relationships, including intimate ones.
- Regular social drinking, drinking games or a memorable night out.
- A few legal gray areas: a fake ID, trespassing, a run-in with campus security.
- Some experimentation with smoking, vaping or cannabis.
A balanced life
The label "balanced explorer" fits because people here have tried a fair amount without going to extremes. You probably have great stories but also a sense of where your limits are.
History note
When the student newspaper at Rice University first published a purity test in 1924, the average score among the women who took it was reported as 62. That makes this range closer to the original "average" than you might expect. Read more in our history of the Rice Purity Test.
Frequently asked questions
Is 70 a good Rice Purity score?
A 70 is a very common middle-of-the-road score. It is neither good nor bad.
Is 65 considered low?
Not really. Mid-60s scores are common among people in their twenties.
Why did my score drop so much since high school?
College and early adulthood bring many items on the list, like independence, nightlife and relationships, so a big drop is normal.
